Warming up: 3’ Guessing secrete numbers - T writes the numbers on the board and asks ss to think about the book Tieng Anh 8 and guess what the numbers related to - Ss work in groups, then give feedback. - T gives comments and lead in the topic of the lesson 12 7 4 2. Presentation: Task 1: Introducing 1- the structures of the book - T introduces the structure of the book - Ss listen and note down 2- Tests: - T introduces the types of test - Ss listen and note down Task 2: Guiding 1- Teacher’s requirements: - T ask ss to work in 2 big groups and discuss what they should do at school and at home - Ss discuss, then they present before the class - T gives comment and ask them to copy 1- the structures of the book - 12 units. - 4 Themes/reviews: (1. our communities; 2. Our heritage; 3. Our world; 4. Visions of the future) - Each unit has 7 lessons: Lesson 1: Getting started Lesson 2: A Closer look 1 Lesson 3: A Closer look 2 Lesson 4: Communication Lesson 5: Skills 1 Lesson 6: Skills 2 Lesson 7: Looking back & project * Knowledge: Grammar- Vocabulary & Pronunciation * Skills: Listening; Speaking; Reading; Writing 2- Tests: Frequency test: 5’, 15’, oral test Periodic test: 45’ (3 skills & use of language) Examination (4 skills & use of language) 3- Teacher’s requirements: At school: Listen to teacher carefully, and then do as T’s suggestion Work in groups or pairs (pairs and groups are assigned) Write or note lesson carefully. Pairs/groups have assistant boards in order to practice with activities. Listen to T.’s consolidation. Then consolidate and practice more at home. Ss may help T. with teaching aids (pictures, real objects) At home: Revise the knowledge studied at school (vocabulary, grammar) Read the texts as much as possible in order to remember the new words better. Make sentences with new words or model sentences Do as suggestions in W/B and reference books. Be ready for the next lesson (find new words and read the text in advance. Work in pairs/groups to practice speaking what you’ve learnt. Communicate to foreigners if you have a chance. Prepare objects as T’s suggestion 3. Practice: Learning tips * Cataloging - T prepares the pieces of papers with learning tips on them and ask ss to work in groups to decide which groups of skills and language they belong to. G1: Reading G2: Reading G3: Writing G4: Speaking G5: Pronunciation G6: Vocabulary G7: Grammar - Ss work in small groups of 5 to do. Ss quickly take the pieces of paper with tips they think suitable to their group. - After 5 minutes, they show the work to the class. - The groups give comment to one another. - T gives her opinion and give more presentation * Useful advice: - Ss should practice as much as possible: at home, at school, in the class, in public places - Ss should be confident: Don’t worry about making mistakes. Your approximate correct pronunciation is acceptable - Ss should be patient: Try to practice again and again, gradually you will be successful. Try to imitate the voice from the CD. * Activities: - Dialogues and role-plays: practice the stress, rhymes and intonation patterns of English in a natural way. - Classroom routines: Practice the common classroom expressions daily such as asking for permission (I don’t understand. Could you say it again, please? May I ask you a question?...) or answering a question ( I think/ guess.., Perhaps) - Talk freely in a language situation related to the topic of the unit: pair work, group work and class presentation. 4- Learning tips 4.1- Reading: Pre: + Have a pencil with you. + Guess the content of the text. + Have a quick look all and underline the key words (of the questions & the reading text). + Try to guess the answer or the meaning of any new words in the context. While: + Focusing on familiar words, guessing unfamiliar words in context. + Pay attention to synonym, antonym + Short answers are encouraged in Post: + Complete the unfinished answers and check the answers again. (try to put them in the context) 4.2- Reading: Pre: + Have a pencil with you. + Have a quick look all and underline the key words. + Try to predict the listening content + Try to guess the answer or the meaning of any new words. While: + Pay attention to the final sounds or liking sounds, rhythms and intonation. + Concentrate on the purpose and the content of the listening text. + Listen and take note as quickly as possible. Post: - Complete the unfinished answers and check the answers again. (try to put them in the context) 4.3- Writing: Pre: + Think what to write. Write the outlines. + Think of and write down the language input to express your ideas in English. + Organize the ideas and write the draft. While: + Write independently under the teacher’ guidance and supervision. Post: + Pear check. + Ask for teacher’s comments. + Revise: re-reading the writing to improve the content and organization of ideas; + Edit: re-reading the writing to correct the errors and mistakes in grammar, vocabulary, spelling + Submit the writing to the teacher for evaluation. 4.4- Speaking: * Two forms of speaking: + spoken interaction: refer to the ability to ask and answer questions and handle exchanges with others. + spoken production: refer to the ability to produce the language appropriately and correctly. 4.5- Pronunciation: Listen, then practice (repetition). Sounds, Words stress, Sentence stress, Intonation. 4.6- Vocabulary: Try to practice, understand, memorize and recycle (use) and extend vocabulary and grammar appropriately in specific/ meaningful contexts. + Underline or highlight the new words you have met. + Collect them and write them into the vocabulary notebook. + Learn them by heart. (read aloud, write again in the draft, make sentences with them) + Review them regularly. (daily, weekly) + Use them in real contexts. (say and write) 4.7- Grammar: Try to use correct grammatical patterns to express your ideas in specific contexts. + Pay attention on the new grammatical patterns in the text. + Study the grammar rules. (meaning/form/use) + Practice the new grammatical item in a spoken or written activity. 4. WRITING Activity 5 -Production (7’_) Aim- to practice writing skill ( write an online message ) Step 1: Ss brainstorm ideas about the use of modern equipments in our lives: advantages/ disadvantages. -- T explains the writing task - Ss work individually to write a short- not more than 100 words- online message to a friend - T remind them of the reasons for communication breakdown and the rules of netiquette they learned in unit 10 -Ss do the writing task in 7’- Step 2- T goes around the class to provide help. . Step 3: Ss swap their work with their parner to check before going through some of the messages as a class.
